Locum Veterinary Investigation Officer - APHA Penrith, Cumbria - 3rd August 2026 - 31st March 2027

Locum Veterinary Investigation Officer Required for Penrith, Cumbria. The role will be required to investigate animal diseases in farm and non-farm livestock by providing a diagnostic and investigative service to private veterinary surgeons and their clients. Veterinary surveillance, through the post-mortem examination of submissions and the use of diagnostic tests, to establish likely cause of death/ diagnosis where possible. The main requirement is the ability to confidently do post-mortem examinations and being able to report the findings and results. Farm animal experience required, and ideally with an interest in pathology. Based at APHA Penrith but occasional field work if farm visit required. The start date will be 3rd August 2026 - 31st March 2027. The role is full time, Monday– Friday 8.30am – 5pm. Applicants will have to have Official Controls Qualification (Veterinary) – Essential Skills. Applicants must either live locally or be happy to arrange own accommodation as this will not be provided or subsidised. Possibility of job share working 2 full weeks per month.
